Introduction
This article assumes it has been verified that the CrewApp Server is successfully sending notifications to the effected device through the server logs and that the notifications are not appearing on the device.
If the server logs have not been checked please see the Troubleshooting Server article first to ensure notifications are being sent successfully.
CrewApp Settings
Ensure that the correct notification options are set in the app itself by going to the Settings window and select the NOTIFICATIONS tab. Select the notifications you want to receive and then tap the Save notifications button at the bottom.
If an error occurs please check the server request logs, see the Troubleshooting Server article, for more information on what may have gone wrong.
If notification settings revert back to their original position then what has likely happened is the user has updated their device and their older device identifier is still being used.
This causes the CrewApp to receive the device identifier from the older device on the new device. As this does not match the new device no notifications are delivered and this is also why the notification settings do not save correctly.
To remedy this :
- Logout from the CrewApp
- Remove the CrewApp from the device completely
- Install the CrewApp
- Login
It is very important that the app be removed from the device to clear out the older device identifier completely.
Android Settings
With every new Android OS update Google have been increasing security and privacy settings which sometimes affect the CrewApp. Therefore it is important to first look at the settings for the CrewApp within Android Settings app and check if something has been added which limits notification delivery.
As of writing the below settings should be checked - screenshots are taken from a Samsung device and your device's settings menus may look different.
Open the Settings app and find and tap the Apps section wherein you should find and select an entry for CrewApp in the list of apps.
Once inside the settings screen for CrewApp verify that the Notifications option is Allowed and that Permissions show Notifications.
If the Notifications option shows Blocked as in below, select the notifications section and enable them on the next screen as shown below.
After switching the Allow notifications switch to ON also ensure at least one of the Notification types is selected as in below and the App info screen should now show Notifications as Allowed and Permissions as Notifications.
Battery Mode
Another setting that can limit notification delivery to the device is if the device is either using a 3rd party battery saving app or using the battery saving mode in Android OS. This can be turned off, assuming battery is not low or at least battery saving mode is no longer required.
Go into Android Settings app again, select the Battery and device care option and ensure the Power saving option is set to OFF.
If the user has any other power saving apps installed these should be checked also to see if notifications to the CrewApp are not being delivered because of that.
